Austrian Ski Championships 1947

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Austrian State Ski Championships from 1947 , advertised by the Austrian Ski Association and the Workers' Association for Sport and Physical Culture in Austria (ASKÖ) took place in Tschagguns in Vorarlberg from February 17 to 23 . Both the champions in the alpine and the Nordic ski competitions were chosen.

The competitions in Tschagguns were the first Austrian ski championships after the Second World War , after the planned championship in 1946 did not materialize. The starting field consisted of the best of the skiers from the ÖSV and those from the ASKÖ identified in advance at the individual state championships. The championships were therefore not a mass sports event, but a selection of Austria's best skiers this winter.

organization

The organization of the ski championships was entrusted to the Tschagguns winter sports club under its chairman, the successful Nordic skier Edwin Hartmann . As a dress rehearsal, the Tschaggunsern held the Vorarlberg state ski championships in January 1947.

Venues

The jumping competitions took place on the Zelfenschanze built in 1937 and the Ing.-Ohnebergschanze . The latter was rebuilt for the state championships because the Zelfenschanze was too big for the combined and junior jumpers and officially opened on December 29, 1946 with a jumping competition.

The cross-country races led in a loop from the center of Tschagguns to the Zelfen district and back again.

The alpine competitions were held on the Grabser run on the Tschaggunser Mittagspitze . The special competitions should actually be run on the Kapell run on the Hochjoch in Schruns . However, because of the warm temperatures, they were moved to the Grabser run, where the combination competitions also took place.

With a grade of 240, he also led the cross-country ski run. Bad luck for the Carinthian representatives Otto Doujak , who had to give up on the first loop, and Karl Martitsch, who only arrived in Tschagguns after the competition due to a delay in arrival. The Viennese Buttinger came in 22nd place.

Zelfenschanze
In order to be able to carry out the special jump despite the prevailing thaw ,
snow was delivered by truck from neighboring Switzerland . The night before the competition there was surprisingly fresh snow. The inrun and the outrun could no longer be perfectly prepared and in the first run they were in such a bad condition that none of the athletes were able to jump. When the jumpers then refused to start again, the hill was prepared again, whereupon the second run could be carried out without any problems with a greatly shortened approach. Nine athletes from the Swiss Ski Association took part in the competition, but they were not counted for the Austrian championship. Swiss Blum achieved the longest jump with 64.5 m. The favorite Sepp Bradl followed with 64.0.
