In the special cross-country race, which started and finished at the Kurhaus in Bad Hofgastein, the superiority of the runners from Tyrol , who took the first five places , was evident . Haider started for Salzburg but was a native of Tyrol. The best runner from another federal state was this year's ASKÖ champion Fred Rösner . Last year's winner
Josl Gstrein was able to successfully defend his title.

Cross-country skiing was also rated for the Nordic combined, whose jumping competition was scheduled for the next day. With his cross-country win, Gstrein was also awarded the role of favorite in the fight for the combined title.

The information from the ÖSV (winner board) and the contemporary source regarding the runners Noichl and Hundertpfund (Arbeiter-Zeitung) and Haslwanter and Unterreiner (ÖSV) differ from the occupation of the Tyrolean winners' relay. In the Wikipedia article on Hubert Hammerschmidt there is also the comment on the participation of this runner in the winning relay, although this statement is neither supported by the contemporary source nor by the ÖSV.

Due to the onset of foehn weather , the special jumping was canceled on February 22nd and not counted. At the time of the demolition, Walter Reinhart and Gregor Höll were in the lead with jumps over 51.0 m, the championship favorite Sepp Bradl had not yet jumped. The competition was to be restarted on February 23, but could not take place because of the inrun track that was iced up by the rain and had to be postponed again. As expected, Bradl crowned himself Austrian ski jumping champion for 1948 in the third attempt.

Eighth place in combined jumping was enough for cross-country skiing winner Josef Gstrein to win the Nordic combined title .

Results of the junior competitions

Only athletes born between September 1, 1927 and August 31, 1929, who had Austrian citizenship and were members of the Austrian Ski Association were admitted to the junior championships. In addition, the Ö.SV set a maximum contingent of participating athletes for each federal state, which could not be exceeded.
