Oskar Schulz (cross-country skier)

Oskar Schulz (born October 14, 1923 in Innsbruck ; † September 20, 2017 there ) was an Austrian cross-country skier and later mineralogist and petrographer .

Life

Oskar Schulz took part in the Winter Olympics in Oslo in 1952 and in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956 . In Oslo he finished 48th in the individual race over 18 kilometers, four years later he was 59 over 15 kilometers. He also finished 11th with the Austrian team in the 4 x 10 km relay.

Parallel to his sporting career, he studied mineralogy and received his doctorate in 1950 . From 1959 he was a university lecturer at the University of Innsbruck , from 1968 with the title of professor. In 1973 he was appointed associate professor. From 1982 until his retirement in 1988 he was a member of the board of directors of the Institute for Mineralogy and Petrography at Innsbruck University.

He has been a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts since it was founded in 1990 . His research focus was the geology of deposits and raw material geology in Austria.
