Austrian Ski Championships 1912

The 6th Austrian Ski Championship took place as part of the sixth association competition of the Austrian Ski Association from February 3rd to 4th, 1912 on the Bödele near Dornbirn in the Kronland Vorarlberg .

The Norwegian Lauritz Bergendahl was crowned Austrian ski champion for 1912 .

organization

The competitions of the Austrian Ski Federation on the Bödele presented the first championship of Austrian sports association in Vorarlberg and also the last major sporting event in the country before the First World War . For the organization, founded in 1905 showed club Vorarlberg skiers , shortly VVS responsible, which already, in Organized the annual " Bödele ski race " years before , the overall management was the responsibility of the local ski pioneer Viktor Sohm .

Prices

For the ski champion of 1912, Bergendahl , there was a gold plaque and a diploma from the association. The winner of the endurance run also received a silver wine jug donated by the Association for Tourism in Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein . Henriksen was awarded the price for the boldest ski jump and received a silver cup donated by the Association of Inn Owners on Lake Constance and the Rhine .

With the participation of Lauritz Bergendahl , who was then leading in Nordic skiing, and his Norwegian compatriots Johann Henriksen and Per Simonsen , as well as some of the German and Swiss ski greats at the time, the championship of 1912 surpassed all of its previous editions in sporting terms. Of the Austrians, only Sepp Bildstein (VSS Graz) was able to keep up with the overwhelming competition with an 8th place in the jumping and seventh place in the composite run .

Besides Bildstein called by the Association of Styrian skiers still Josef Obereder , Ludwig Grettler and Lieutenant Elsner . Grettler retired after a fall, Elsner and Obereder resigned from the competition.

Last year's winner Karl Böhm-Hennes missed the opportunity to defend his title. He took part in the upcoming competitions of the Thuringian Winter Sports Association in Oberhof and won the Rennsteig race there .
