The Hochälpelekopf (after the Alpe Hochälpele on the eastern slope ) is a mountain in the Bregenzerwald Mountains near Dornbirn and at 1,463  m above sea level. A. the highest point in the Bödele area .

Location and surroundings

The Hochälpelekopf forms an elongated mountain ridge running in a north-south direction. At the southern end forms Gschwendtner saddle the transition to Gräsakopf and Weissenfluh with which the hochälpelekopf the Hochälpele-Weissenfluh group forms, while in the north the lots pass the Geißkopf and thus the Lorenaberge connect.

The border between Dornbirn and Schwarzenberg runs a few meters west of the summit, so that the summit itself is in the municipality of Schwarzenberg.

geology

The Hochälpelekopf massif belongs to the northern Vorarlberg flysch zone and consists mainly of sandstone with clay marl interlayers. The little water-permeable rock is also responsible for the swamp forests adjoining to the south up to the Hottersattel.

The Hochälpelehütte

The eponymous alp with the Benedict chapel is located on the eastern slope of the Hochäpelekopf .

The Hochälpelehütte (1,460 m) of the Austrian Alpine Club is located directly below the summit . On the occasion of its opening on September 10, 1875, the prospect was already praised, which is equal to that of Hohen Freschen , but far surpasses that of Pfänder .

In 1912 and 1925 competitions for the Austrian skiing championships were held at Hochälpele. On 10 January 1987, on the game Moss departure a women's World Cup - downhill skiing discharged. The start was below the summit in the area of ​​the mountain station of the Hochälple T-bar lift.

In September 2012, a radio relay with an output of 6  watts was set up on the Hochälpelekopf by the mountain rescue team together with the Vorarlberg state warning center. The 6 meter long antenna now also serves as a mast for a red and white flag, which can already be seen on historical images.
