Course of the World Cup slope Spielmoos run |
The Spielmoos run in the municipality of Schwarzenberg ( Vorarlberg , Austria ), with a total length of 3,063 m (height difference 700 m, 40 gates), has long been considered the longest downhill run for women in the history of Alpine Ski World Cup races. In 2007 it was replaced by the downhill run in Tarvisio ( Italy ) with a length of over 3,900 m.
The start is on the Hochälpelekopf at 1,460 m above sea level, the finish in the Geroldsegg district at 760 m above sea level. The so-called cannon barrel was considered the key point.
In the 1986/87 World Cup season (on January 10, 1987), a women's downhill race was held on it, which, together with the World Cup slalom held in Mellau ( Vorarlberg , Austria ) on the following day, was also part of the combined ranking. Since then, Beatrice Gafner (SUI) has held the track record of the downhill run with 02: 08.71.
In the 1988/89 World Cup season (on January 6th and 7th, 1989), two giant slalom runs for women took place on the middle section of the route, which was homologated as the FIS RTL slope. The Austrian Alpine Skiing Championships in giant slalom (women and men) took place there in 1983 .
