Tom Lubitz (born February 8, 1995 ) is a former German Nordic combined athlete .

Career

Lubitz parents are cross-country skiers. His interest in Nordic combined began through a trial training session. In 2014 he graduated from the Klingenthal sports high school.

Tom Lubitz started on the international level for the first time on September 5th and 6th, 2009 as part of the Nordic Combined Alpine Cup in Winterberg , where he finished 42nd and 54th place. Since then, other competitions have followed regularly, and in the course of his career he was able to achieve second place six times and third place in Alpine Cup competitions.

At the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck , Lubitz took fourth place in the individual Nordic Combined competition and barely missed a medal. Together with Katharina Althaus and Andreas Wellinger , he also started in the mixed team competition for ski jumpers and combined athletes; together they won the gold medal ahead of Slovenia and Canada.

Lubitz made his debut as part of the competitions from December 14 to 16, 2012 in Soldier Hollow ( Utah ) in the Continental Cup , in which he achieved placements beyond the top 40. As a result, there were further Continental Cup participations on a regular basis. A year later he got his first Continental Cup points in the same place with his first top 30 placements. His best placing in the Continental Cup was a ninth place in Tchaikovsky on March 7, 2015.

On August 24, 2014 Lubitz made his debut in the Grand Prix in Oberwiesenthal , where he finished 46th. He achieved his first Grand Prix points with a 24th place three years later at the competition in Planica on September 30, 2017.

At the German Junior Championships 2014 in Hinterzarten in October 2014, he finished second behind Jakob Lange .

On January 4, 2015 Lubitz finally started in Schonach for the first time in the World Cup ; here he was 45. Only two more World Cup participations followed, namely at the competitions in Hakuba in early February 2018 , in which he reached 36th and 33rd place.

In the years 2015 to 2018, Lubitz mostly competed in the Continental Cup. He contested his last competitions in September 2018 as part of the Grand Prix in Planica. In November 2018, Lubitz ended his active sports career.
