Clinton "Clint" Jones (born October 5, 1984 in Monroe , Wisconsin ) is a retired American ski jumper .

Career

Clint Jones grew up in Steamboat Springs and skied for the first time at the age of two. He came to ski jumping at the age of five through his brother Robbie, and in 1999 he became the youngest American champion in history. On February 26, 2000 Jones started in the World Cup for the first time and just missed his first points as 32nd. At the end of November 2001 he took ninth place in Kuopio, the best World Cup result of his career. At the 2001 World Championships in Lahti , Finland , he was 38th on the large hill and 37th on the normal hill. Two years later he reached the World Championships 2003 in Predazzo , Italy , he was 32nd on the normal hill and 40th on the large hill.

On January 2, 2002, Jones won the Continental Cup jumping competition at Bergisel in Innsbruck - at the 2002 Junior World Championships in Schonach in the Black Forest , he was seventh in the individual competition. After finishing second overall in the 2002 Summer Grand Prix , Jones celebrated a double victory at the Continental Cup in Park City at the end of September . At the ski flying world championship in 2002 in Harrachov , Czech Republic , he finished 38th. Two years later he reached the second round at the Ski Flying World Championships 2014 in Planica, Slovenia , finishing 22nd. At the 2005 World Championships in Oberstdorf he reached 32nd place on the normal hill.

Overall, he took part in the Winter Olympics twice. Neither in 2002 in Salt Lake City nor in 2006 in Turin did he reach the second round and finished 42nd (2002) and 47th (2006). With the US team he finished eleventh in Salt Lake City and 14th in Turin.

Together with Alan Alborn , he formed a two-man World Cup team for years until he ended his career in 2007. Since the US Ski Association then stopped the financial contributions to the team, Jones had to end his career as well.

He is currently the head coach of the US ski jumping team.
