Sorin Iulian Pîtea (born September 7, 1997 in Brașov ) is a Romanian ski jumper .

Career

Pîtea starts for the CSS Dinamo Râșnov . He made his debut in the FIS Cup on September 8, 2010 in Einsiedeln at the age of 13 . He finished 50th out of 54 participants and was therefore unable to qualify for the second round. During the 2010/11 season he took part in other competitions in the FIS Cup, but could not qualify for the second round once. At the first FIS Cup of the 2011/2012 season in Gérardmer , Pîtea was 29th for the first time to qualify for the second round. Overall, he was able to qualify for the second round five times this season. On December 18, 2011, he made his debut in the second-rate Continental Cup in Erzurum and finished in 52nd place. At the Junior World Championships 2012 in Erzurum, he finished 62nd.

In the 2012/2013 season, Pîtea commuted between the Continental Cup and the FIS Cup. In the Continental Cup, he missed the 2nd round in every jumping. At the FIS Cup in Râşnov he took second place in the first competition and won the second competition. He is the first and so far only Romanian who has won an FIS Cup. At the Junior World Championships 2013 in Liberec , he finished 45th. In the summer of 2013, Pîtea competed in several FIS Cups, but he only achieved mixed performances. In winter he regularly jumped in the Continental Cup . On December 28, 2013 he was 22nd in Engelberg for the first time to reach the second round and thus also won his first Continental Cup points. On January 19, 2014, with a 12th place at the Continental Cup in Sapporo , he was able to record both his own greatest success and the greatest success of a Romanian in the Continental Cup. A few days later, Pîtea also competed in a World Cup for the first time in Sapporo and was able to qualify for the competition straight away. In his World Cup debut on January 25th, he finished 46th.

In 2014 Pîtea took part in the Olympic Winter Games at the age of 16 . He was the first Romanian ski jumper to compete in the Olympic Games in 22 years. In Sochi he landed on the normal hill on the 55th and on the large hill on the 61st place. At the 2017 World Championships in Lahti, he finished 13th with the Romanian team.
