Killian Peier (born March 28, 1995 ) is a Swiss ski jumper . His greatest success so far is winning the bronze medal on the large hill at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld in Tyrol .

Career

Peier, who competes for the Vallée de Joux Ski Club , made his international debut at the FIS Junior Team Show on March 1st, 2009 in Baiersbronn . Shortly afterwards, the 13-year-old won the children's competition in Eisenerz and thus received the nomination for the Alpine Cup , in which he already jumped into the top twenty in the second competition in Chaux-Neuve . At the Swiss Ski Jumping Championships 2010 , he won the silver medal in team jumping on October 9, 2010 with the “Ski Romand 1” team, which also included Rémi Français , Guillaume Berney and Vital Anken . After two good results in the FIS Cup in Einsiedeln in October 2010, he was given the first opportunity to jump in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup shortly afterwards . In Engelberg , however, he was disqualified and remained in the Alpine Cup for the time being.

At the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2011 in Liberec , Peier reached 12th place in the individual and was tenth with the team. After mediocre to lower placements in the Alpine Cup, he started again in the Continental Cup on December 28, 2011 in Engelberg. With the 61st place he clearly missed an expected point placement. On January 14, 2012, he started from the normal hill at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck and achieved ninth place. Until the end of the 2011/12 season, he found it difficult to gain a foothold in the Alpine Cup. It was only in August 2012 that he managed to get another place in the top 20 in Einsiedeln. In Oberstdorf , too , he clearly succeeded twice. After a ninth place in Seefeld in Tyrol , he was re-accepted into the Swiss B-squad and jumped again in the Continental Cup on December 27, 2012 in Engelberg. With the 28th place he managed to win the first points. He also collected points in the second competition on the Gross-Titlis-Schanze and in the first competition in Zakopane .

At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2013 in Liberec, Peier jumped to 15th place in the individual and reached 11th place with the team. After a good fourth place in the Alpencup in Kranj , he was nominated for a jumping in the ski jumping world cup for the first time, but missed the qualification on February 8, 2013 in Willingen . In the team competition on the day after, he finished tenth together with Gregor Deschwanden , Pascal Kälin and Simon Ammann . After he was able to score again in the Continental Cup, including in Brotterode and Wisła , he was accepted into the team for the following World Cup.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme , Italy , he narrowly missed the competition in the individual on the large hill with 41st place in the qualification. In the team competition on the same hill he reached tenth place together with Simon Ammann, Marco Grigoli and Gregor Deschwanden . At the same location a year later, he finished 22nd in the individual at the 2014 Junior World Championships and was seventh with the Swiss youth team.

At the start of the 2014/15 season on November 23, 2014, Peier earned his first World Cup points with a 17th place on the large hill. At his age-related last Junior World Championships , he reached in early February 2015 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, with sixth place for the first time a top ten result in the individual, while he again finished seventh with the Swiss team. At the subsequent World Championships for adults in Falun , Sweden , he was again tenth with the team. This time he qualified for the individual competitions, in which he finished 30th on the large and 31st on the normal hill. Two years later, he finished tenth with the team for the third time in a row at the 2017 World Championships in Lahti, Finland . In the individual he was 18th on the normal hill and 40th on the large hill, where he missed the second round.

In the Summer Grand Prix 2018 he was able to celebrate his first podium places at the highest level with second place on the Aigner-Schanze in Hinzenbach, Austria and third on the Adlerschanze in Hinterzarten , Germany. At the Swiss Ski Jumping Championships in Einsiedeln in 2018 , he won the championship title for the third time in a row. At the turn of the year 2018/19, he finished tenth in the Four Hills Tournament and thus the best placement by a Swiss since Simon Ammann's third place in 2013/14 .

At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 on the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck , Peier took the bronze medal behind the Germans Markus Eisenbichler and Karl Geiger . Although this placement represents the best career result for Peier, it was not surprising after the training rounds and the qualification. It was the first medal for Switzerland at the Nordic World Ski Championships in ski jumping since 2011. He then finished seventh in the team competition with the Swiss men's team and took tenth place in the individual jumping on the normal hill.

On December 8, 2019, Peier jumped on the podium for the first time in the fourth World Cup competition of the season in Nizhny Tagil, second behind Stefan Kraft .
