Keiichi Satō ( Japanese 佐藤 慧 一 , Satō Keiichi ; born July 27, 1997 in Shimokawa , Hokkaidō ) is a Japanese ski jumper .

Career

Satō made his international debut in March 2014 as part of two FIS competitions in Sapporo . In July 2014 he jumped in the FIS Cup for the first time and achieved a seventh and a second place on the Trambulina Valea Cărbunării in Râșnov, Romania . Nevertheless, it was only used outside of Japan almost two years later, when it was used for the first time in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup in Kuopio, Finland, after two FIS Cup competitions . While he landed far behind in 53rd place in his first Continental Cup competition on August 20, 2016, he was able to score his first two Continental Cup points on the following day as 28th.

Despite this small success, away missions remained in short supply and in the Continental Cup he was used again for the first time in January 2019 on the Ōkurayama hill in Sapporo, where he scored twice as 15th and sixth. Thereupon he was nominated for the national group of Japanese at the World Cup competitions, which were also held on the Ōkurayama hill. After he had passed the qualification, he made his debut in the World Cup on January 26, 2019 and was able to jump straight into the points as 26th. The next day he was able to improve again as 23rd. After these successes, he was nominated for four Continental Cup competitions in Germany in February 2019 and came in the points in all four competitions. On February 23 and 24, 2019, he achieved his best Continental Cup season results with two fifth places on the Inselbergschanze in Brotterode .

In summer 2019, Satō first started in the Continental Cup . In mid-July he won his first Continental Cup competition in Shchuchinsk , Kazakhstan, ahead of his teammate Naoki Nakamura . At the start of the Ski Jumping Grand Prix 2019 in Wisła , Satō jumped directly into the top ten on his debut. Together with Nakamura, Yukiya Satō and Junshirō Kobayashi , he won the team competition in Zakopane in mid-August . In Hakuba , at home , he reached the podium for the first time a week later.
