Like some other ski jumpers, Satō attended the private high school of the same name in Sapporo, which is associated with Nihon University .
Satō made his international debut in March 2009 as part of two FIS competitions in Sapporo . A year later he jumped in the FIS Cup for the first time . In July 2010 he started his first competition as part of the Ski Jumping Continental Cup , clearly missing the points in all five competitions in Kranj , Velenje and Garmisch-Partenkirchen . At the 2012 Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck , Satō won the bronze medal on the normal hill. With the team he reached fifth place in the team competition. Four weeks later Satō took part in the Junior World Championships in Erzurum . In the individual competition he reached a weak 61st place. With the team, he finished tenth. After a year without an international start, Satō came back to the junior squad of the Japanese for the first time at the Junior World Championships in Liberec . With 13th place in the individual competition and sixth place with the team, he significantly improved his performance from the previous year. In March 2013 he celebrated two victories in FIS jumping in Sapporo.
In January 2014, Satō came back to the Continental Cup after a long time and immediately reached sixth place, his best placement to date. After graduating from school, he joined the company Yukijirushi Nyūgyō (Snow Brand) in April 2014, for whose ski team he has been running ever since.
A year later he jumped twice in the top 10 in the same place. After these again good results he belonged to the national group at the following Ski Jumping World Cup and with 20th place in the qualification achieved a starting place in the highest competition series for the first time. With the places 39 and 43 Satō stayed in the first round and missed the points. At the following Junior World Championships in Almaty , he jumped to fourth place in the individual. In team jumping he reached sixth place with Ryōyū Kobayashi , Rikuta Watanabe and Masamitsu Itō .
In summer 2015 Satō got a starting place in the squad for the ski jumping Grand Prix for the first time . He reached the points in Hakuba and Courchevel and in the end with seven points he was 80th in the overall standings. He started the rest of the summer with changing results in the context of the Continental Cup. At the beginning of winter 2015/16 he traveled with the Japanese team to the World Cup in Nizhny Tagil . As 39th, he again missed the points. At the World Cup in his home town of Sapporo at the end of January, too, he was just 31st without points. At the Winter Asian Games in Sapporo in February 2017, he won the individual competition on the normal hill as well as the team competition with his compatriots Naoki Nakamura , Yūken Iwasa and Masamitsu Itō.
In the 2017/18 season , Satō managed to achieve good placements. At the Willingen Five 2018 he reached 29th place on February 3, 2018 and thus his first World Cup points. On February 4, 2018, he finished eleventh and achieved his best World Cup placement to date. With his achievements he recommended himself for the Japanese World Cup team, with which he finished fifth in his first start on March 3, 2018 in Lahti. In the following summer season he reached 14th place in the Grand Prix series , with a fifth place on the Tremplin du Praz in Courchevel, France, his best placement. At the Four Hills Tournament 2018/19 he was the second best Japanese after overall winner Ryoyu Kobayashi and finished twelfth. Two weeks after the Four Hills Tournament, he jumped third on the Wielka Krokiew in Zakopane for the first time on a podium in the World Cup. At the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld in Tirol , he and his teammates Daiki Itō , Junshirō Kobayashi and Ryōyū Kobayashi won the bronze medal in the men's team competition. With the Japanese mixed team he was fifth, while he finished seventh (normal hill) and 21st (large hill) in the individual competitions.
