Similar to the Raw Air introduced in the previous season, the final ranking of the Willingen Five included both the qualification round on February 2nd and the two rounds of the competitions on February 3rd and 4th. The winner of the Willingen Five received an additional prize money of 25,000 euros.
56 athletes from 14 nations took part in the Willingen Five. Austria and Japan nominated B-teams because their A-teams were training for the 2018 Winter Olympics , which began the following week. Simon Ammann decided not to participate for the same reason.
The qualification took place on February 2, 2018. The 50 best placed jumpers qualified for the competition on February 3rd. David Siegel was disqualified for his non-compliant suit.
The 31 best placed jumpers qualified for the final round, as Ulrich Wohlgenannt and Jakub Wolny finished 30th with the same points after the first round. Daniel-André Tande won the World Cup competition ahead of Richard Freitag and Dawid Kubacki . The world cup jumping was won by Johann André Forfang ahead of Kamil Stoch and Piotr Żyła . Richard Freitag fell back to 11th place with two weak jumps.
