William Rhoads (born June 8, 1995 ) is an American ski jumper .

Career

William Rhoads made his international debut on September 25th and 26th, 2010 at the FIS-Cup jumping in Falun , with the places 26 and 30 directly reaching the points. At the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck , he finished 19th in the individual and eleventh in the mixed team competition. A month later he started at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2012 in Erzurum . There he was 48th in the individual and twelfth with the US team and thus last in team jumping. At the Junior World Championships a year later in Liberec , he was 49th in individual and 13th in team jumping and thus again last.

Rhoads took part for the first time in the 2013/14 season in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup ; his best result in his first season was 46th place in Iron Mountain on the large hill in February 2014. In 2014, he again took part in the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Predazzo . There he took 43rd place in the individual and 13th and last place with the team.

In September 2014 he succeeded for the first time in Klingenthal to qualify for the second round of a Continental Cup jumping and he achieved his first top 15 placement with eleventh place on the large hill. At the start of the 2014/15 season in Klingenthal, he took part in the World Cup for the first time . After he failed in the qualification for the individual competition, he made his debut on November 22, 2014 as part of the team jumping in the World Cup. He jumped with the team to twelfth and thus last place. On January 17, 2015, he achieved his first podium finish in the Continental Cup with second place on the large hill in Sapporo . At the beginning of February 2015, he took part in the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships for the fourth time in Almaty . In the individual competition, he was able to reach the finals for the first time and finished the competition in 29th place. In the team competition, he took tenth place. A few weeks later, Rhoads took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun . There he succeeded in qualifying for the title fights on the normal hill; in the competition, however, he was disqualified because of a jump suit that was too large. With the US team, Rhoads was seventh in the mixed competition on the normal hill. He missed the qualification for the individual competition on the large hill by one place. On March 10, 2015, he started in Kuopio for the first time in an individual competition in the World Cup, as no qualification was held for this competition. He finished this jumping in 42nd place.

In August 2015, Rhoads became the American champion on the large hill. A few weeks later he made his debut in the Summer Grand Prix . In his four individual starts in the summer of 2015, however, he always missed the points.

On October 2, 2016, Rhoads took 24th place at the Grand Prix jumping in Klingenthal and thus scored his first Grand Prix points. In several individual starts in the 2016/17 World Cup , he always missed the points and did not get past 35th place in ski flying in Oberstdorf . In February 2017 he took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships for the second time in Lahti . There he was disqualified in the qualification for the individual competition on the normal hill. In the individual on the large hill, he survived the qualification and took 39th place in the competition. With the US team, he finished eleventh.

On December 2, 2012, Rhoads took 21st place in the World Cup jumping in Nizhny Tagil and thus got the first World Cup points in his career. The following day he jumped into the points again with 29th place. These twelve points remained in the 2017/18 season, which put him in 57th place in the overall World Cup at the end of the season. In February 2018, he took part in the Winter Olympics for the first time in Pyeongchang , where he competed in all three competitions. In the individual competition on the normal hill , he finished 46th. In the individual competition on the large hill , he just failed to qualify as 51st. With the US team he was ninth on the large hill .
