Konstantin Iwanowitsch Sokolenko ( Russian Константин Иванович Соколенко ; born  November 9, 1987 in Alma-Ata ) is a Kazakh winter sportsman who began his international career as a Nordic combined athlete and is now active as a ski jumper .

Career

Nordic combination

In the 2005/06 season Sokolenko, who has been skiing since 1995, won the Kazakh championship in Nordic combined. He made his international debut in January 2006 with the start at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2006 in Kranj . In the individual competition he reached the 51st place, in the sprint he landed on rank 55.

In August 2006 Sokolenko made his debut in the Summer Grand Prix and won his first points as 28th in Kandersteg . However, since it was the only points in the sequence, he finished the 2006 Summer Grand Prix only in 13th place overall. In the 2006/07 season he did not start again until the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo on an international level. After the disappointing 42nd place in the sprint, he reached tenth place with the team in the team competition. In the Gundersen singles on the normal hill, he finished 48th. Sokolenko fell so badly in the sprint that he had to withdraw from international competition for some time.

After not competing internationally for the next two years, he started in the Continental Cup of Nordic Combined in January . After a few unsuccessful attempts to establish himself successfully in the B series, Sokolenko finally managed to win Continental Cup points for the first time in Kranj . He was also successful in Titisee-Neustadt and Hinterzarten . He was then nominated as a member of the A-squad to participate in the Nordic Combined World Cup in Klingenthal on February 14, 2009. However, he did not start in either competition. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 , he again missed the leap to the top places and ended up above 50th in all three individual competitions.

At the end of the 2008/09 season, Sokolenko succeeded in Rovaniemi again a points result, whereupon he went back to the Summer Grand Prix in the summer of 2009. However, he missed the points in Hinterzarten as well as in Val di Fiemme . For the 2009/10 season he started in the Continental Cup in Park City in December . Although he was unsuccessful, he made his debut in the World Cup on January 2, 2010 in Oberhof . As 51st, he clearly missed the points. In the second competition the following day he was eliminated. Back in the Continental Cup, he again achieved two points in Bischofshofen . Then he got in Seefeld in Tirol again in the World Cup. After he was eliminated in the first competition, he landed in the second race in 42nd place. After he was not able to occupy any top places in the Continental Cup, he withdrew from the national team and switched to the special jumpers at the end of the season.

In February 2012 he was nominated again for two World Cups in his hometown of Almaty , but did not start.

Ski jumping

He made his debut as a special jumper in August 2010 in the FIS Cup in Örnsköldsvik . In his first competition, Sokolenko, trained by Dionis Vodnev , ended up just behind the podium in fourth. After he reached rank 12 in the second competition, he switched to the B-team. In the Ski Jumping Continental Cup he was also able to jump into the points as 13th in his first competition in Almaty. At the beginning of the 2010/11 season , he made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup on November 27, 2010 as a member of the senior national team at the team competition in Kuusamo . At the following individual World Cup he was disqualified. In Lillehammer and Harrachov he clearly missed the qualification. Back in the Continental Cup, he tried in vain in Engelberg and only jumped to places 69 and 78.

At the Winter Asian Games 2011 in Almaty, Sokolenko achieved ninth place on the normal hill and on the large hill.

In January 2011 Sokolenko started to qualify for the Ski Flying World Cup in Harrachov, but only just missed the qualifying round as 41st. In the following February he started again in the FIS Cup for some jumping before he switched back to the Continental Cup. However, he stayed there until the summer without any points. Also at the Ski Jumping Grand Prix 2011 in Hinterzarten he missed the qualification in the individual and only took part in the team competition with the team. He and his teammates reached 10th place. In Almaty he also missed the points when he was 38.

From December 2011 Sokolenko belonged again to the C-squad in the FIS Cup. Despite the lack of success, he came back to the B squad in February 2012 and started again in the Continental Cup. However, he could not win any points there in the following months either. He achieved his best placements in Tchaikovsky with two 34th places. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme, he missed the qualification in the two individual competitions. With the team he reached rank 12 in the team competition. At the following Continental Cup in Nizhny Tagil , he again only narrowly failed to score points.

Even in the 2013/14 season , Sokolenko will be competing in the Continental Cup again, despite the fact that he has not won any points. However, if there are opportunities to start, he is also part of the extended A-squad in the World Cup.

He achieved his greatest international success at the Winter Asian Games 2017 in Sapporo , Japan , when he and the Kazakh team achieved the silver medal behind Japan.
