Shimokawa ( Jap. 下川町 , - chō ) is a town in the district of Kamikawa of Kamikawa Subprefecture , Hokkaido , Japan .
geography
Shimokawa is located in the Kitami Mountains , with the city center in the valley of the Nayoro-gawa ( 名 寄 川 ), a tributary of the Teshio-gawa , which connects to the Nayoro Basin ( 名 寄 盆地 , Nayoro-bonchi ) in the west. The highest point is the 1142 m high Wenshiri-dake ( ウ ェ ン シ リ 岳 ), also written Uenshiri-dake ( ウ エ ン シ リ 岳 ), which forms the border between Shimokawa, Nishiokoppe in the northeast and Takinoue in the southeast. Shibetsu lies south of Shimokawa , Nayoro to the west and Ōmu to the north .

The main road is the national road 239 to Abashiri or Rumoi . A connection to the rail network has not existed since the Nayoro main line was discontinued in 1989 .
education
In Shimokawa there is a primary school, a middle school and a high school with a teaching focus on economics. A special feature is that ski jumping is offered from elementary school to high school, which is why the city has produced many important ski jumpers, e. B. Daiki Itō , Noriaki Kasai and Takanobu Okabe .
