Nemuro ( Japanese 根 室 市 , - shi ) is a port city on the Japanese island of Hokkaidō . The city is located in the extreme northeast of Japan and is the administrative seat of the sub-prefecture of the same name, Nemuro .
history
A 2.8 m high tsunami wave was reported in the port of Nemuro on March 11, 2011 after the Tōhoku earthquake , which the dike could not disperse and which streamed into the path.
geography
Nemuro is located east of Sapporo on the Nemuro Peninsula on the Pacific Ocean .
traffic
The Nemuro station is the eastern terminus of the of JR Hokkaido operated Nemuro Main Line ; the Attoko train station, which is also located in the city, used to be an important hub. Nemuro can also be reached via national roads 44 and 243.
