The Attoko Station ( Jap. 厚床駅 , Attoko-eki ) is a train station on the Japanese island of Hokkaido . It is located in the sub-prefecture of Nemuro in the area of the city of Nemuro .
description
Attoko is a through station and former separation station on the Nemuro main line . This leads from Takikawa via Obihiro and Kushiro to Nemuro and is operated by the JR Hokkaido company. Regional trains run from Kushiro to Nemuro and back every two to three hours , plus the Nosappu and Hanasaki express trains once a day .
The station is located on the southern edge of the Attoko district and faces west to east. It has two tracks, of which the one on the house platform is used for passenger traffic. In the 1960s, when the volume of traffic was significantly greater and freight traffic was brisk, the station had six tracks. There is a bus stop in front of the train station, which is served by three lines of the Nemuro Kōtsū company.
history
The Railway Authority (later the Ministry of Railways ) opened the Akkeshi –Attoko section of the Nemuro main line on November 25, 1919 . Attoko was the eastern terminus for almost a year. On November 10, 1920, the section to Nishi-Wada followed, the definitive eastern end point Nemuro was reached in 1921.
Under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior , the Fūren Line, a 15.2 km long small railway with a gauge of 762 mm , was built to develop the hinterland . It ran from 1933 to 1964, was pulled by horses and was mainly used to transport agricultural products to Attoko station. On December 1, 1933, the Ministry of Railways took the Shibetsu line from Attoko to Bekkai into operation; a year later this led to Nakashibetsu .
For cost reasons, the Japanese State Railways stopped handling goods on July 15, 1979, and checked baggage on February 1, 1984. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the possession of the new company JR Hokkaido on April 1, 1987 . This shut down the Shibetsu line on April 30, 1989, since then Attoko has only been a through station. The station has not been staffed since 1995.
