The Akkeshi Station ( Jap. 厚岸駅 , Akkeshi-eki ) is a train station on the Japanese island of Hokkaido . It is located in Kushiro Sub-Prefecture, Akkeshi City .

description

Akkeshi is a through station and former separation station on the Nemuro main line . This leads from Takikawa via Obihiro and Kushiro to Nemuro and is operated by the JR Hokkaido company. Regional trains run from Kushiro to Nemuro and back every two to three hours , plus the Nosappu and Hanasaki express trains once a day .

The station is northwest of the city center and faces west to east. It has four tracks, two of which are used for passenger traffic. These are located on a central platform that is connected to the reception building on the south side of the facility by a covered overpass . A pedestrian walkway leads over the tracks immediately next to it, but is not connected to the platform.

history

The Railway Authority (later the Ministry of Railways ) opened the Kushiro – Akkeshi section of the Nemuro main line on December 1, 1917. At the same time, it put a 1.2 km long connection line to the port into operation; the local train station Hama-Akkeshi ( 浜 厚 岸 ) was only used for goods traffic. On November 25, 1919, the section to Attoko was opened , making Akkeshi a separation station. Two years later, the route to Nemuro was completed.

In 1965 the Japanese State Railways replaced the previous station building with a new building. On November 15, 1982, she closed the branch line to the port and on November 1, 1986, she stopped checking in luggage. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the possession of the new company JR Hokkaido on April 1, 1987 . Since 1999, Akkeshi has been the only staffed train station between Kushiro and Nemuro.
