The train station Higashi-Kushiro ( Japanese. 東 釧 路 駅 , Higashi-Kushiro-eki , German "Bahnhof Kushiro-Ost") is a train station on the Japanese island of Hokkaidō . It is located in the sub-prefecture Kushiro in the area of the city Kushiro .
description
Higashi-Kushiro is a separation station on the northeastern outskirts of Kushiro. It is on the main Nemuro line that runs from Takikawa via Obihiro and Kushiro to Nemuro . From this the Senmō main line branches off to Abashiri . Both lines are operated by the JR Hokkaido company. Regional trains run every two to three hours on the Nemuro main line and five times a day on the Senmō main line.
The station is oriented from west to east and has two tracks, both of which are used for passenger traffic. They are located on a central platform that is connected to the reception building on the north side of the facility by an overpass .
history
The Railway Authority (later the Ministry of Railways ) opened the Kushiro– Akkeshi section of the Nemuro main line in 1917 , but the trains ran without stopping at the current station for more than ten years. Immediately to the west of it, a short branch line to the Tennei freight yard was built in 1923 (in operation until 1984). On March 16, 1925, a turnout named Betsuho ( 別 保 ) went into operation. Another state railway line, the Senmō main line , had its starting point here from September 15, 1927. The Higashi-Kushiro station was finally opened on November 11, 1928 at the location of the turnout.
The mining company Taiheiyo Kōhatsu operated two port railways from the Betsuho siding or from the Highashi-Kushiro station . The 9.1 km long route to Irifune-chō was opened on March 16, 1925, followed on January 10, 1937 by the 2.2 km long route to Shiruyama. The latter was shut down on June 1, 1985. A 4 km long section of the older port railway is still used, but has not been connected to the rest of the Japanese railway network since November 1, 1986.
For cost reasons, the Japanese State Railways stopped handling goods at Higashi-Kushiro station on January 15, 1962, and also checked baggage on February 1, 1984. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the possession of the new company JR Hokkaido on April 1, 1987 . No personnel have been stationed here since March 15, 1994.
