Port railway

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A port railway is a railway in the port area that enables cargo to be loaded onto the railway. It is a special form of an industrial connecting line . Via the connection (s) to the railway network, it is an important part of hinterland traffic , mainly for freight traffic . In most cases, a port railway also has a corresponding port station or several.

Often the port railway only provides the infrastructure ( track systems , signaling , signal box , etc.), the actual traffic is usually carried out by various railway companies (EVU).
