The Regio Infra mbH (RIG) is a 2009 ENON mbH & Co. KG and Prignitzer Leasing AG founded railway infrastructure companies , which in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt , through its subsidiary Regio Infra Northeast GmbH (RIN) around 375 kilometers of rail routes and operates train stations.

history

The RegioInfra Gesellschaft was founded in 2009 as a railway infrastructure company (EIU), whose headquarters were initially in Rangsdorf .

At the end of 2010, the company bought the Neustadt – Herzberg railway line from DB Netz AG and took over management in April 2011. In order to promote rail freight transport , a loading line in the Temnitz-Park industrial area was reactivated in April 2012 and a test container train was unloaded there. At the same time, the Mirow – Wittstock railway line was acquired, on which the rails have now been largely removed and a cycle path is to be created.

Since 2011, RegioInfra has also been operating the “Rundbus” for excursions around Lake Plauer. Between April and September / October there is a two-hour clockwise ride between Plau am See, Karow, Malchow and Stuer back to Plau. Passengers can get on and off at all stops en route. In cooperation with the Eisenbahngesellschaft Potsdam (EGP), which is part of the corporate group , you can switch between the EGP excursion trains and the "round busses" in 2013. A combined ticket for bus and train is also available.

After DB Netz put out the Löwenberg – Rheinsberg railway line for takeover by other RIUs at the beginning of July 2011 , RIG was awarded the contract at the end of December 2011 and has been operating the line on a lease basis since April 2012. In Herzberg (Mark) this line connects to the RIG line to Neustadt (Dosse).

On July 10, 2012, Prignitzer Eisenbahn Infrastruktur GmbH , a subsidiary of Prignitzer Eisenbahn GmbH (PEG), was taken over by the company with retroactive effect from January 1, 2012. The infrastructure taken over includes the Karow - Waren, Blankenberg - Dabel, Neustadt (Dosse) - Pritzwalk - Meyenburg - Karow - Priemerburg and Pritzwalk - Putlitz routes. In addition to the routes, the PEG workshop premises in Meyenburg, the offices in Putlitz and all employees were taken over. The north-south connection from Rostock to Pritzwalk is being advertised for other rail transport companies as an alternative to the routes from DB network via Neustrelitz or Schwerin.

In December 2012, the RIN took over the Neustrelitz – Mirow line , on which passenger rail transport from the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was canceled when the timetable was changed in December 2012. The local rail transport is now still provided under the sponsorship of the district, financed with the means of a rail replacement traffic and carried out by the Potsdam Railway Company (EGP).

Since 2013, RegioInfra has been operating the connecting railway to the port of Greifswald- Ladebow on behalf of the Hanseatic City of Greifswald , which was reopened on January 15, 2014 after a thorough renovation after eleven years.

In connection with the commercial traffic by the Hanseatic Railway on the section of the Mecklenburg Southern Railway canceled by the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , the RIN took over the Parchim - Karow section from DB Netz on December 9, 2014.

After lengthy negotiations, in which the Bundeswehr was also involved, the RIN leases the Biederitz – Altengrabow railway line from DB Netz on March 1, 2015 . Due to the military transports to the military training area in Altengrabow, freight traffic continues to take place on the route. At the beginning of 2015, the company also took over the management of the industrial and port railway in Wittenberge, which had been converted into a public railway infrastructure and owned by the city .

On January 16, 2017, the Regio Infra Nord-Ost tendered the Werneuchen – Tiefensee section to be taken over by other railway infrastructure companies.

In October 2017, the previous shareholder Prignitzer Leasing AG sold its 50% share to Deutsche Eisenbahn Service AG, which thus became the sole shareholder.

On October 1, 2018, the Ganzlin – Stuer section was closed.

On April 3, 2019, RegioInfra announced that it would initiate a closure procedure for the Priemerburg - Karow (Meckl) - Plau am See and Parchim - Karow (Meckl) - island town of Malchow . The attempt to work out viable concepts for the re-use of the infrastructure after canceling the local rail transport on the southern railway had failed due to the will of the state government.

Infrastructure

The RIN operates the following own or leased railway lines as well as lines operated on behalf of other RIUs (a total of 375 kilometers of operating lines and 48 kilometers of lines out of service):

Scheduled traffic takes place over around 180 kilometers, which is almost 50 percent of the operating route network. The majority of this is accounted for by the ordered, sometimes only seasonal, local rail passenger transport and 22 kilometers of scheduled freight traffic. With 800,000 tonnes of goods transported, the route network is only used to a low level.

Bus transport

RegioInfra operates the following tourist bus offers:

  • Round bus Plauer See (between Plau am See, Karow, Malchow and Stuer, since 2011)
  • Fleesensee-Shuttle (Göhren-Lebbin, since 2013)

formerly:

  • Ückeritz shuttle (2016-2019)
