Port railway of the canton of Basel-Stadt
The Port Railway of the Canton of Basel-Stadt (HBS) was a licensed Swiss railway company which, as a standard-gauge freight railway, connected the Rhine ports of the city of Basel to the Deutsche Bahn network .
By the end of 2009 there was another line that connected to the Swiss Federal Railways and Société nationale des chemins de fer français (SNCF). In December 2010 the Port Railway Switzerland (HBSAG) was founded, which took over the two cantonal port railways of Basel-Stadt and Baselland at the beginning of 2011.
The port railway connects the Rheinhafen Kleinhüningen on the right bank of the Rhine to the marshalling yard of the Baden railway station . A separate route on the left bank of the Rhine opened up the former Rhine port of St. Johann from 1911 to the end of 2009 and connected it to the SBB / SNCF station in St. Johann .
The company was responsible for a secure infrastructure and smooth operation on its routes. SBB Infrastructure was entrusted with the operational management .
The port railway was founded in 1924. She did not own any vehicles.
