from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bristol Harbor Railway was a railway company based in Bristol in South West England .

The Bristol Harbor Railway was founded on June 28, 1866 to build a 1.6-kilometer line from the Great Western Railway route at Temple Meads Station to Wapping Wharf. The company was owned by the Great Western Railway (GWR), the Bristol and Exeter Railway (B&ER) and the Bristol City Corporation. The line was opened on May 1, 1872. The operation was carried out jointly by the owners. From June 30, 1874, the GWR and the B&ER shared control.

As part of the takeover of B&ER on August 1, 1876, the Bristol Harbor Railway was also taken over by GWR. On October 4, 1906, the line was extended into the Canons Marsh.

Today the Bristol Industrial Museum operates a museum railway in the port of Bristol under the name Bristol Harbor Railway.
