The Nakashibetsu Station ( Japanese 中標 津 駅 , Nakashibetsu-eki ) is a former train station on the Japanese island of Hokkaidō . It was located in Nemuro Sub-Prefecture , in the Nakashibetsu City area, and operated from 1934 to 1989.
description
Nakashibetsu was a separation station on the Shibetsu Line , which branched into two sections here. While the main line connected Shibecha with Nemuro-Shibetsu , a branch branched off to Attoko . The station was located in the city center and was oriented from the southwest to the northeast. It had three tracks for passenger traffic, which were on the house platform and on a central platform . The latter was connected to the station building on the northwest side of the facility by a level crossing . Two more tracks led to a depot with a turntable and a container terminal in the eastern part of the facility .
Nothing has been preserved from the complex. The station building was demolished and replaced by a bus terminal , which is served by several lines of the companies Akan Bus and Nemuro Kōtsū and the city bus Nakashibetsu. In addition to the sales outlets of the bus companies and Nakashibetsu Airport, there are several shops. A small exhibition on railway history can be viewed on request.
history
The Ministry of Railways opened the station on October 1, 1934, together with the Nakashibetsu – Bekkai section of the Shibetsu Line . This initially completed the branch line towards Attoko . With the opening of the section between Kenebetsu and Nemuro-Shibetsu on October 30, 1937, Nakashibetsu became a separation station.
From 1962 to 1986 express trains stopped in Nakashibetsu between Nemuro-Shibetsu and Kushiro . The Japanese State Railways replaced the station building with a new one in 1968 and opened the container terminal on October 18, 1973. However, on February 1, 1984, cargo handling and baggage check-in were stopped. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the possession of JR Hokkaido on April 1, 1987 . This shut down the Shibetsu line on May 1, 1989.
