Francisco de Saucedo

Francisco de Saucedo (* around 1485 in Medina de Rioseco ; † June 30, 1520 in Tenochtitlan ) was a Spanish conquistador, commander of one of the ships in the wake of Hernán Cortés and a companion in the conquest of the Aztec Empire .

Life

Francisco de Saucedo was the son of a wealthy merchant family from Medina de Rioseco; from a young age he had worked for the powerful Enríquez family .

Around 1510/15 he embarked for Fernandina , today's Cuba , where he met Hernán Cortés. When Cortés set out on the expedition in 1519 that eventually led to the conquest of Mexico, Francisco de Saucedo was the captain of one of the eleven ships. He set out on February 10, 1519.

When the Spaniards had to flee the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan on the night of June 30th to July 1st, 1520 ( Noche Triste ) , Francisco de Saucedo was killed.
