The Shibecha train station ( Japanese 標 茶 駅 , Shibecha-eki ) is a train station on the Japanese island of Hokkaidō . It is located in Kushiro Sub-Prefecture, Shibecha Township area .

description

Shibecha is a through station and former separation station on the Senmō main line . This leads from Abashiri to Higashi-Kushiro and is operated by the JR Hokkaido company. Passenger trains run four times a day from Abashiri to Kushiro and back, as does the Shiretoko express train once a day . In addition, there are two daily train pairs in regional traffic between Kushiro and Mashu. There is a bus terminal south of the station , which is served by several lines operated by Akan Bus and the Shibecha municipal bus service.

The station is located in the Asahi district and faces north to south. It has three tracks, all of which are used for passenger traffic. These are located on the main platform and on a central platform that is connected to the reception building on the western edge of the facility by a covered overpass . To the north-east of the station there is a small double-track depot for parking trains and railway service vehicles .

history

The Ministry of Railways opened the section between Higashi-Kushiro and Shibecha on September 15, 1927 . The station was the northern terminus for almost two years, until the opening of the following section to Mashū on August 15, 1929. The Senmō main line was completed two years later. Under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior , the Shibecha Line, a 39.0 km long small railway with a gauge of 762 mm , was built to further develop the region . It ran from December 12, 1930 to September 4, 1936, was pulled by horses and was mainly used to transport agricultural products to Shibecha station.

The small train had been replaced by the largely parallel Shibetsu line of the Ministry of Railways. Their first section to Nakashibetsu was opened on October 29, 1936; a year later the route reached Nemuro-Shibetsu . In November 1961, the Shibecha Municipal Light Railroad put a short section of the line to the station into operation, but it was given up again in January 1967. The Japanese State Railways replaced the previous station building with a new building in 1974. On May 20, 1983, she stopped handling goods for cost reasons, and on February 1, 1984 also checked baggage. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the possession of the new company JR Hokkaido on April 1, 1987 . This shut down the Shibetsu line on April 30, 1989, since then Shibecha has only been opened up by the Senmō main line.
