Nayoro ( Japanese 名 寄 市 , - shi , Ainu Nay Oro ) is a city in the Kamikawa sub-prefecture on the Japanese island of Hokkaidō .
geography
Nayoro is located in the northeastern part of Hokkaido, about 50 kilometers north of the city of Asahikawa . It extends over the Nayoro Basin ( 名 寄 盆地 Nayoro-bonchi ), between the Kitami Mountains in the east, the Teshio Mountains in the west and the Kamikawa Basin in the south.

The appointment to the urban district took place on April 1, 1956.

Nayoro is connected to the Dōō highway , which leads south to the capital of Hokkaidos prefecture Sapporo .
Furthermore, there are several train stations in Nayoro that are connected to the Sōya main line of JR Hokkaido . The most important is the Nayoro station , where the Nayoro main line (until 1989) and the Shinmei line (until 1995) branched off.
