Embetsu ( Japanese 遠 別 町 , - chō ) is a small town in Teshio County in the Rumoi sub-prefecture on Hokkaidō .
geography
Within the city limits is the 1,032 m high mountain Pisshiri ( ピ ッ シ リ 山 ), Ainu for "mountain of stones", which at the same time forms the border between Embetsu, Haboro , Horokanai .
Embetsu is traversed by the eponymous river that gives it its name.
history
The village of Shosambetsu as an independent municipality was created on April 1, 1903 as a spin-off from the village of Teshio . On April 1, 1919, it was appointed to the 2nd class community and on April 1, 1949 to the Chō.

Embetsu has the Asahi Onsen (( 温泉 ) with a temperature of 29.4 ° C.

Embetsu is connected to the national road 232 to Teshio and Rumoi . Prefecture streets that cross the town limits are prefecture streets 119, 256, 393, 688, 741, 826, 854 and 971.
All previous train connections to Embetsu have been discontinued. The state JNR's Haboro line to Rumoi and Horonobe , which was completely closed in 1987 , stopped at Utakoshi, Teshio-Kanaura, Embetsu, Keimei station and Marumatsu station. The Haboro line was originally used to transport coal.
economy
The main industries of Embetsu are fishing, agriculture, dairy and forestry. The city lies on the northern limit of rice cultivation.
education
In Embetsu there is the primary school Embetsu, the middle school Embetsu and the agricultural high school Hokkaidō-Embetsu ( 北海道 遠 別 農業 高等学校 , Hokkaidō Embetsu nōgyō kōtō gakkō ).
