Ikeda ( Japanese 池田 町 , -chō ) is a Japanese community in the Tokachi sub-prefecture on the island of Hokkaidō .

Geography and climate

Ikeda is mostly located in a valley of the Toshibetsu River on the southeast coast of Hokkaidō. The Tokachi River in the southwest of the urban area forms the border with the neighboring municipality of Makubetsu . The Tokachi region is considered to be one of the coldest in Japan. The temperatures in winter can sometimes drop to - 20 ° C. Nevertheless, comparatively little snow falls in the region .

Economy and Transport

The agricultural main product is Ikeda's wine . Due to the sometimes extreme temperature differences, the Ikeda grapes - like other fruit from the region - are particularly sweet. In October the city celebrates a wine festival.

The Ikeda Station is located on the by JR Hokkaido operated Nemuro Main Line . Ikeda will also open up the national road.
