description
Ikeda is a through station and former separation station on the Nemuro main line . This leads from Takikawa via Obihiro and Kushiro to Nemuro and is operated by the JR Hokkaido company. The Super Ōzora express trains , which run from Sapporo to Kushiro and back six times a day, stop in Ikeda . In addition, there are regional trains between Shintoku and Kushiro every one to two hours . There is a Tokachi Bus bus stop in front of the train station .
The station is located on the southern outskirts and is oriented from north to south. It has four tracks, two of which are used for passenger traffic. They are located on a partially covered central platform that is connected to the reception building on the west side of the facility by a covered overpass . To the north of the train station there is a double-track depot for parking train service vehicles .
history
The state company Hokkaidō Kansetsu Tetsudō built a railway line from Asahikawa and Kushiro to develop the eastern part of the island. On December 15, 1904, it took the section between Toshibetsu and Toyokoro into operation, together with Ikeda station. In 1905 responsibility was transferred to the Railway Authority (later the Ministry of Railways ). This opened the Chihoku line from Ikeda to Rikubetsu on September 22, 1910 and extended it to Abashiri the following year .
In 1961 the Japanese State Railways put a new station building into operation. For cost reasons, it stopped handling goods on February 1, 1984, and checked baggage on March 14, 1985. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the possession of the new company JR Hokkaido on April 1, 1987 .
JR Hokkaido planned to shut down the Chihoku line, but transferred it on June 4, 1989 to the Hokkaidō Chihoku Kōgen Tetsudō , a company supported by regional authorities. The Chihoku line was given the new name Furusato Ginga line . However, the new owner did not succeed in operating the line profitably, so it had to be shut down on April 21, 2006. Since then, Ikeda station has only been served by the Nemuro main line.
