Reruhi Shimizu ( Japanese 清水 礼 留 飛 , Shimizu Reruhi ; born December 4, 1993 in Myōkō , Niigata Prefecture ) is a Japanese ski jumper. His greatest international success to date is winning the bronze medal in team jumping at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi .

Career

Shimizu, who starts for the Japanese team Yukijirushi Megmilk Ski-bu ( 雪 印 メ グ ミ ル ク ス キ ー 部 , English Megmilk Snow Brand Ski Team ), appeared internationally for the first time on March 2, 2008 when he competed in an FIS competition in Sapporo . After only taking 35th place there, it was initially no longer used internationally in the years to come. In the summer of 2011, he then appeared in Europe for the first time in two FIS Cup competitions in Villach, Austria, and celebrated his first international victory on July 17, 2011 after having finished seventh the day before. These successes meant that it was used at the end of the summer season in the Continental Cup and also in the Summer Grand Prix . In the following winter season he mainly started in the Continental Cup and achieved his best result to date on November 29, 2011 in Rovaniemi, Finland, with tenth place.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships for juniors in February 2012 in Erzurum , Turkey , he finished 13th in the individual and tenth in the team competition with the Japanese team. His start to the 2012 summer season began with a bang: in his first competition in Courchevel , France , he won his first Grand Prix competition ahead of Andreas Wank and Tom Hilde . Four days later, in Hinterzarten , he immediately finished second on the podium, this time behind Wank. After further good placements, he finished fourth in the overall ranking of the Grand Prix .

As a result of the good summer performance, he was nominated for the coming season as an integral part of the Japanese World Cup team . At the start of the season on November 24, 2012, he not only qualified for the competition for the first time, but also scored his first three World Cup points as 28th. Two weeks later, in Sochi, Russia , he achieved his best results so far in this competition, finishing ninth and tenth.

In the 2013/14 season Shimizu celebrated his first World Cup podium with third place in the team competition in Klingenthal . At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he finished 18th on the normal hill and tenth on the large hill, before he celebrated his greatest international success to date with the bronze medal in the team competition on February 17, 2014.

For years Shimizu has tried in vain to reconnect with the Japanese World Cup squad. Although he managed to get the right to start in the Continental Cup through successful appearances in national competitions , his best result was 29th place at the end of January 2020 in Sapporo .
