During his active time, Späth was a sports soldier in the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Sonthofen . In Planica he reached 1st place in the 2003/04 season after the first day of competition in the Ski Flying World Championships, but slipped to 4th place on the 2nd day. His greatest success so far is the silver medal in team jumping on the normal hill at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2005 in his hometown of Oberstdorf. Georg Späth became German champion in 2005, both in individual competitions and in team jumping (winner: Team Bayern). He also took 1st place at the World Cup in Willingen in 2005 together with the German team. At the Ski Flying World Championships in 2006 Georg Späth surprisingly won the bronze medal with the German team (in addition to Späth, Alexander Herr , Michael Neumayer and Michael Uhrmann ). At the Summer Grand Prix jumping in Hinterzarten , he won the individual competition, which he was able to repeat in 2008. In Courchevel he finished second after a good performance.
On October 13th, 2008 it was announced that Späth tore a cruciate ligament two months ago when he fell during training in Pragelato and therefore will not start this season but will only be able to return to the hill in summer 2009.
Georg Späth was not included in the cadre of the German Ski Association for the 2011/2012 season due to poor performance in the previous season.
After the active time
In 2014, Späth took over the post of race director in Oberstdorf and was active for the first time at the opening competition of the Four Hills Tournament 2014/15 .
