Mateusz Rutkowski (born April 28, 1986 in Zakopane ) is a former Polish ski jumper .

Career

Rutkowski, who started for the club TS Wisła Zakopane and later for the LKS Poroniec Poronin , made his international debut at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2002 in Schonach in the Black Forest . At the age of only 15 he achieved a good 33rd place on the normal hill. A year later at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2003 in Sollefteå , Rutkowski jumped to 17th place and reached sixth place with the team in team jumping. In March 2003 he was then placed in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup . Already in his first competitions in Stryn he clearly reached the points as 20th and 12th.

He also started the 2003/04 season with points successes in Lillehammer , Engelberg and Seefeld in Tyrol , before winning his first Continental Cup competition on January 3, 2004 in Planica . In the second competition he was also on the podium again in third place. Less than a week later, he received a nomination for the Ski Jumping World Cup and started for the first time on January 10, 2004 in Liberec in the highest competition series. In his second competition he won his first World Cup point in 30th place. In his home country Zakopane he also achieved a place in the points in the second competition with rank 15.

At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2004 in Stryn, he surprisingly beat the Austrian Thomas Morgenstern and won the title on the normal hill. With the team he reached second place and won silver. A week later, the team was able to achieve seventh place at the Team World Cup in Willingen .

At the Ski Flying World Championships 2004 in Planica Rutkowski flew to 28th place and reached eighth place with the team. Then he started again in the Continental Cup for the first time. After he could n't convince here in Kuopio , he also had no chance at the World Cup in Lahti . At the end of the season he reached rank 58 in the overall World Cup ranking. At the Ski Jumping Grand Prix 2004 in the summer he was only able to achieve mixed individual performances, but in Hinterzarten he made it onto the podium in third place with the team in the team competition.

At the beginning of the 2004/05 season he was again unable to build on old performances and missed them in all competitions. Even at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf in 2005 he had no chances and only reached positions 45 on the normal hill and 39 on the large hill. The team was also ninth without a chance for a medal.

A short time later, the association announced that Rutkowski had been excluded from the World Cup squad because he had problems with alcohol, obesity and a lack of fitness and discipline. In July he started one last time in Velenje in the Continental Cup before ending his active career.

His younger brother Łukasz Rutkowski is also a ski jumper.
