Jan Hörl started regularly in the Alpine Cup of ski jumpers in 2014 . In this competition series he achieved a total of three daily victories by February 2018: on January 13 and 14, 2018 in Hinterzarten and on February 18, 2018 in Kranj, Slovenia . He had previously participated in the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2018 in Kandersteg . There he first took fifth place in the individual competition on the normal hill on February 1, 2018. Then he won two medals with silver in the men's team competition with Mika Schwann, Maximilian Lienher and Clemens Leitner and bronze in the mixed team with Claudia Purker , Sophie Mair and Leitner.
On March 3, 2018, he made his debut in the ski jumping Continental Cup in Rena, Norway, with a 31st place in the competition on the large hill. In the Ski Jumping Grand Prix 2018 he reached 54th place overall. On January 3, 2019, he was able to qualify for the first time for a ski jumping World Cup competition in Innsbruck as part of the 67th Four Hills Tournament as a member of the so-called "national group" . In this competition, which took place one day later, he scored his first World Cup points as 29th straight away. On January 19, 2019, he took part in the team competition in Zakopane with the Austrian team and, together with Daniel Huber , Michael Hayböck and Stefan Kraft, achieved his first podium finish in the World Cup in second place. He achieved his best position in an individual competition on January 27, 2019 in Sapporo, Japan, with 15th place. At the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld in Tirol , he was nominated for the normal hill competition and reached 44th place there.
