Viktor Polášek (born July 18, 1997 in Nové Město na Moravě ) is a Czech ski jumper . At the 2017 Junior World Championships in Park City , he became Junior World Champion in the individual competition.

Career

Polášek made his debut in international competition at two competitions within the FIS Cup on August 30 and 31, 2013 in Frenštát pod Radhoštěm , where he was 38th and 33rd. Only three other competitions followed in this and the next FIS Cup season. In the 2014/15 season, Polášek then took part more consistently in competitions. He started the new season on January 10, 2015 in Zakopane with a fifth place. As a result, he made his debut on January 16 and 17, 2015 in the Continental Cup at its station in Sapporo . Here he finished 30th and 13th. In the same month and on the same hill, Polášek was allowed to debut in the World Cup , here he reached 46th and 45th places. At the Junior World Championships in 2015 in Almaty , he finished eighth and with the Team ranked ninth.

One of his greatest successes at the beginning of his career was participation in the 2015 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun , where he competed in both a mixed team and an individual. He benefited from the injury-related loss as well as declining performance of many ski jumpers in the team. In the mixed team he came together with Michaela Doleželová , Barbora Blažková and Jan Matura on the 11th and last place, in the individual he missed the actual competition because he could not qualify. He was not allowed to start in the team competition. Further participation in the Continental Cup followed in the 2014/15 season , but no more top ten placements.

On September 5 and 6, 2015, Polášek made his debut in the Summer Grand Prix in Tchaikovsky , where he also scored his first Grand Prix points with places 29 and 24. In the winter of 2015/16, he mainly started in the Continental Cup . In February 2016 he also took part in the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Râșnov . He finished fourth in the individual competition, in team jumping he finished sixth with the Czech team and fifth in the mixed team competition. His best COC placement of the season was eighth in March 2016 in Vikersund . This was followed by his only appointment to the Czech World Cup line-up that season . At the World Cup in Titisee-Neustadt he was disqualified in the first individual competition and the second competition was canceled due to strong winds.

On January 8, 2017, he won his first Continental Cup competition in Titisee-Neustadt, which was also his first podium place in the COC. In the 2016/17 season , Polášek started more often in the World Cup and was also part of the Czech team in team competitions three times. On January 15, 2017, he reached the finals in 26th place for the first time and thus scored the first World Cup points of his career. In the overall World Cup ranking he reached 47th place with 31 points. At the Junior World Ski Championships 2017 in Park City , Utah , Polášek won the gold medal in the individual competition on the normal hill ahead of the Italian Alex Insam and the German Constantin Schmid . In the team competition he took seventh place together with Damián Lasota , Dušan Doležel and František Holík and in the mixed team competition together with Barbora Blažková , František Holík and Jana Mrákotová the eighth place. He achieved his second COC podium placement on February 18, 2017 in Planica in third place. He was then nominated for the 2017 World Championships in Lahti , where he finished 25th on the large hill and 31st on the normal hill in the individual competitions. With the Czech men's team, he finished seventh.

In the 2017/18 season, too, he commuted between the World Cup and the Continental Cup . On December 27, 2017, he finished second at the COC in Engelberg . In February 2018, Polášek started in Pyeongchang for the first time at the Winter Olympics as part of the five-man Czech squad, although he had not scored any World Cup points in the season before. He was nominated for all three competitions. In the two individual competitions on the normal hill and the large hill , he finished 44th, with the team he was tenth.

At the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld in Tyrol , he finished 25th on the large hill and 38th on the normal hill. He finished eighth with the Czech men's team and ninth with the mixed team. Polášek won his first championship title at the Czech championships in summer 2019.
