Nina Lussi (born March 29, 1994 in Lake Placid ) is an American Nordic skier .

Career

Lussi began her career in her native Lake Placid with ski jumping and Nordic combined . On October 8, 2005, she made her debut in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup . At the 2008 Junior Olympic Games in Ishpeming , she won the gold medal in ski jumping and combined. At the Junior World Championships in 2009 in Štrbské Pleso she reached the 26th place in the individual. In the 2008/09 ski jumping season , Lussi won a Continental Cup point for the first time. At the end of the season she finished 87th in the overall ranking. At the 2010 Junior World Championships in Hinterzarten , she finished 27th in individual jumping. The following year she was at the Junior World Championships in Otepää 38th and 2012 in Erzurum she finished 29th.

Lussi has also been taking part in World Cup competitions since 2012, but initially did not get past 40th place (Hinterzarten, January 13, 2013). At the Junior World Championships 2013 in Liberec , she was 30th in the singles and eighth with the US team. At her last Junior World Championships she was 23rd in Predazzo in 2014 , which is also her best individual result at a Junior World Championship.

On March 1, 2014, she won the Continental Cup jumping on the normal hill in Falun, Sweden . She was unable to repeat this success the following day and took second place. Lussi became the American champion on the large hill in 2015. At the US championships on the normal hill, she reached third place.

In mid-February 2017, Lussi finished 29th and 25th at the two World Cup competitions in Pyeongchang and was thus able to collect World Cup points for the first time. She then left the national team and did not return to the World Cup until January 2019. She succeeded in Râşnov twice as 30th for the first time again winning World Cup points. In the same year she was nominated for the first time for the Nordic World Ski Championships , which took place this year in Seefeld in Tyrol , and came in tenth with both the women and the mixed team.
