Brother started on August 26, 2000 in the national team at the Nordic Combined Summer Grand Prix. Until 2004 he competed in the B World Cup several times, but never reached top places. On March 7, 2004 he completed his last competition as a Nordic combined skier before he switched completely to ski jumping. His best result as a combiner was a 16th place on January 7, 2003 at the B-World Cup in Štrbské Pleso .
On July 24, 2004 he jumped for the first time in the Continental Cup for the German ski jumping team. Already in December of the same year he reached the top 10 placements for the first time in the jumping in Harrachov . After Bruder jumped onto the podium for the first time with 2nd place on January 30, 2005 in Lauscha , he was nominated for the A World Cup. On February 5, 2005, he surprisingly achieved a 14th place on the large hill at the World Cup show jumping in Sapporo . However, he could not repeat this performance and, in addition to the Continental Cup, only jumped three times in World Cup competitions. Brother did his last international jumping on February 25, 2007 in Oberhof in the Continental Cup.
On October 3, 2007, he officially announced his retirement from active skiing. Bruder is currently training the women's team for the Federal Police and is leading the team at the 2009 Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec .
