Silje Opseth (born April 28, 1999 ) is a Norwegian ski jumper . Her greatest sporting success so far is the bronze medal in the team competition at the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld in Tyrol .

Career

Silje Opseth began her professional career as a ski jumper in the 2014/15 season as part of two competitions in the Continental Cup on December 12th and 13th, 2014 in Notodden and reached 43th and 38th places. However, she reached the next time she took part in a competition in the Continental Cup in January 2015 in Falun with places five and seven, two top 10 results. At the end of the season she finished 20th overall with 81 points. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2015 in Almaty , Opseth achieved sixth place in the individual competition.

On December 4, 2015, Opseth finally made her World Cup debut in Lillehammer , where she finished 37th. Overall, she reached the end of the season with 22 points through two top 30 placements at the World Cup stations in Oslo and Lahti, 40th place in the overall standings. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2016 in Râșnov , Opseth finished eleventh in the individual competition, in the mixed team competition she reached fourth place with Anna Odine Strøm , Halvor Egner Granerud and Marius Lindvik and thus just missed a podium position.

On September 10 and 11, 2016, Opseth made his debut in Tchaikovsky in the Summer Grand Prix . With places 25 and 23, she also got her first Grand Prix points straight away. With 14 points she finished 30th in the overall ranking . At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2017 in Park City she finished 22nd in the individual competition and fourth in both the team competition and the mixed team competition and thus missed a medal again. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , she missed the finals in the individual as 31st and took fifth place in the mixed team competition with the Norwegian team. In the World Cup 2016/17 she only reached the points once with rank 23 in Oslo.

In the 2017/18 World Cup season , she jumped into the points significantly more often than in her first two years in the World Cup. She improved her best individual result to 14th place, which she achieved on March 3, 2018 in Râșnov . With 163 points she took 20th place in the overall World Cup and thus her best result to date. At the Nordic Junior World Championships 2018 in Kandersteg she finished twelfth in the individual competition and fifth with the Norwegian women's team. In the mixed team competition she won the world title together with Fredrik Villumstad , Anna Odine Strøm and Marius Lindvik . At the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang , which took place after the Junior World Championships , she took 16th place in the individual competition on the normal hill .

On December 1, 2018, she jumped ninth on Lysgårdsbakken in Lillehammer for the first time in the top ten of a World Cup competition. At the Nordic Junior World Championships 2019 in Lahti , Finland , she finished fourth in the individual competition and ninth with the Norwegian women's team. In the mixed team competition she won the silver medal together with Ingebjørg Saglien Bråten , Fredrik Villumstad and Thomas Aasen Markeng .

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2019 , Opseth won the bronze medal in team competition with the team that also included Anna Odine Strøm , Ingebjørg Saglien Bråten and Maren Lundby . She finished eleventh in the individual competition.
