Marco Wörgötter (born October 16, 2002 in St. Johann in Tirol ) is an Austrian ski jumper . At the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne , he won the gold medal both individually and with the mixed team.

Career

Success in youth

Wörgötter, who starts for the Kitzbüheler SC, made his international debut on June 19, 2011 at the opening competition of the 2011 Children's Four Hills Tournament in Hinzenbach . He achieved his best result in the overall ranking of the tour with seventh place in 2013 in the K11 category. His first competition as part of the FIS , he completed on March 4, 2017 which mainly from the OPA organized Alpencup when he was in Hinterzarten was eleventh. In 2017, Wörgötter also won gold at the regional level at the Tyrolean School Championships and gold at the national level with the Nordic Combined team at the Austrian School Championships. At the Nordic Ski Games of the OPA 2019 in Kandersteg , Switzerland , he won the gold medal in both the junior individual and the team competition.

Breakthrough in the 2019/20 season

In summer 2019, Wörgötter dominated the start of the Alpine Cup season with four wins in a row. He was able to confirm this form in winter with initially good jumps in the FIS Cup and in the Alpine Cup. Then Wörgötter made his debut on January 11, 2020 in Bischofshofen as the youngest participant in the Continental Cup and achieved a strong debut result with 13th place. A week later he started at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne , where he was able to prevail over the Slovenian Mark Hafnar by over ten points . He also won first place in the mixed team competition together with Lisa Hirner , Julia Mühlbacher and Stefan Rettenegger . Surprisingly, a short time later he was nominated for the World Cup jumping in Sapporo , Japan . On his debut on the Ōkurayama hill , he jumped straight into the points. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2020 in Oberwiesenthal , he took fifth place on the normal hill and became Vice Junior World Champion with the team together with Peter Resinger , Josef Ritzer and David Haagen . The next day he won the mixed team competition together with Lisa Eder , Peter Resinger and Marita Kramer .
