For the winter, the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne were in the foreground, which is why he did not appear internationally until the Games. On January 31, 2020, Rettenegger made his debut in the World Cup as part of the Nordic Combined Triples in Seefeld , but missed the points. Against this background, Rettenegger was traded as a secret favorite before the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2020 in Oberwiesenthal and finally took a top position with sixth place in the Gundersen individual.
