Clemens Aigner (born February 2, 1993 in Steinach am Brenner ) is an Austrian ski jumper .

Career

Aigner, who competes for SV Innsbruck-Bergisel , made his international debut in September 2009 in the Alpencup. In February 2010 he started in Villach for the first time in the FIS Cup . In July he jumped into the points for the first time in both competitions at the same point. Despite this success, he stayed in the Alpine Cup. It was not until February 2011 that he came back to the FIS Cup and scored two points in Ramsau am Dachstein . In December 2011, he made it into the top ten for the first time on the same hill in the Alpine Cup. He then returned to the FIS Cup in Predazzo and achieved two places among the top ten with places four and five.

On January 28, 2012, Aigner competed in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup for the first time in Bischofshofen . In the second competition he was the 28th to collect Continental Cup points. A year later he achieved a top 20 result for the first time in Titisee-Neustadt as 15th. A few days later in Kranj he was second on the podium in the Alpine Cup for the first time. He celebrated his first top 10 place in the Continental Cup in Iron Mountain in February 2013.

At the Winter Universiade 2013 in Predazzo he jumped from the normal hill in the individual to 13th place. In the team competition on the normal hill, he and his teammates finished twelfth three days later. In the second team competition he won the bronze medal together with Daniel Huber and David Unterberger . In the individual on the large hill, Aigner finally reached 20th place.

On July 12 and 13, 2014, Aigner won both FIS Cup competitions in Villach. After two further top 20 placings in the Continental Cup in Wisła , Aigner received a starting place at the Ski Jumping Grand Prix 2014 in Hakuba . As 27th in the first and 25th in the second competition, he collected Grand Prix points twice. In Hinzenbach he only just missed further points in 31st place. In the end he was 68th in the Grand Prix overall ranking with ten points.

At the Austrian championships in October 2014, Aigner won the bronze medal behind Michael Hayböck and Stefan Kraft from the normal hill at the Montafon ski jumping center in Tschagguns .

On December 20, 2014, Aigner celebrated his third FIS Cup victory on the MS 1970 in Štrbské Pleso . On January 16, 2015, Aigner celebrated his first Continental Cup podium as third in Sapporo .

On August 29, 2015 he won his first competition in the Continental Cup on the normal hill of Frenštát pod Radhoštěm . With another victory in Engelberg in December 2015 and further podium and top 10 placings, at the end of the 2015/16 season he came second in the overall winter standings behind Tom Hilde and ahead of Karl Geiger . He won the overall COC ranking (summer + winter) ahead of Karl Geiger and Florian Altenburger .

In October 2016, Aigner won the gold medal at the Austrian Championships 2016 in Eisenerz together with Andreas Kofler , Elias Tollinger and Manuel Fettner in the team competition.

In January 2017 he won two more competitions in the Continental Cup in Sapporo and Bischofshofen . In the season finale in March 2017, he won five of the last six COC competitions and came third once. With this series of successes he won the winter classification of the Continental Cup and also repeated the overall COC victory from the previous season.

In the 2017/18 season he was a permanent member of the Austrian World Cup team. On November 18, 2017, together with Daniel Huber , Michael Hayböck and Stefan Kraft, he achieved his first World Cup podium finish in team competition in second place. This season he took part for the first time in all competitions of the Four Hills Tournament, in which he landed in 33rd place overall. In ski flying on the Kulm , he achieved his best career result with seventh place and his first top ten placement ever in an individual World Cup. At the Ski Flying World Championships 2018 in Oberstdorf , he finished 18th in the individual and fifth in the team competition. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he was part of the five-man squad of Austrians. During the training rounds he had to jump against his teammates for a start in the competition. So he only took part in one of three competitions. In the individual competition on the large hill , he took 31st place. Since it was the first time that he jumped a full season in the World Cup, he also achieved his best result in the overall World Cup to date: with 104 points, he finished 29th.
