Valery Vladimirovich Kobelev ( Russian Валерий Владимирович Кобелев ; born March 4, 1973 in Kaluga , Soviet Union ) is a former Russian ski jumper and Nordic combined athlete .

Career

Kobelev made his international debut at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer in Nordic combined. In the team competition he reached 12th place with the Russian team. In the individual competition he did not get past 48th place. After the games, he concentrated on his stronger discipline, ski jumping. He made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup in 1995. On November 30, 1997, he jumped into the top ten for the first time in Lillehammer and finished ninth. At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , Kobelew jumped from the normal hill to 58th place. From the large hill he reached place 35. With the team he finished ninth in the team ranking. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein , he reached 36th place on the normal hill and 26th place on the large hill. A short time later he had a serious fall while ski flying in Planica , had to be reanimated and put into artificial deep sleep. However, he returned to the World Cup after months of convalescence . However, he did not jump into the points again until November 2000 in Kuopio . At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , he jumped in both competitions and reached 29th place on the normal hill and 17th place on the large hill. He had previously achieved his best individual placement in the World Cup with 5th place in Sapporo . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2003 in Val di Fiemme , he reached 33rd place on the normal hill and 39th place on the large hill.

In March 2003 he declared his career over, but in winter 2005/06 he was again active in the Continental Cup and in February 2006 even took part in two World Cup competitions in Willingen . He has not been jumping internationally since the end of 2006.
