Wojciech Skupień (born March 9, 1976 in Zakopane ) is a former Polish ski jumper . In addition to his sporting activities, he is a soldier in the Polish Army .

Career

He entered his first World Cup jumping in 1992 when he was just 16 years old in Falun . He collected his first World Cup points a year later with a 20th place in Courchevel . Although he had already achieved this position in the previous season, World Cup points were still only awarded to the best 15 jumpers according to the old system.

From the 1992/1993 season to 2000/2001 , Skupień was a permanent World Cup participant and regularly scored, but never made the final breakthrough. Rank 38 was his best place in the overall World Cup ( 1999/2000 ), and in 2001 he was 13th overall in the Four Hills Tournament . After the 2000/2001 season, Skupień was no longer a regular competitor in World Cup competitions, but mainly took part in lower competition series such as the Continental Cup or the FIS Cup .

Wojciech Skupień's last World Cup result to date was a 36th place in Willingen on February 10, 2007. His best individual result is a sixth place in 2000, plus two 10th places (1995 and 2000). With the Polish team, he achieved a podium finish in 2001, finishing third in Villach .

Wojciech Skupień took part in five Nordic World Ski Championships ( Falun 1993 , Thunder Bay 1995 , Trondheim 1997 , Ramsau 1999 and Lahti 2001 ) and three ski flying world championships (1996, 2000 and 2004). His best results were a 15th place in the individual jumping and a 5th place with the team at the Nordic World Championships 2001 - both from the normal hill .

Skupień took part in the Olympic Games three times, in 1994 in Lillehammer , in 1998 in Nagano and in 2002 in Salt Lake City . At the large hill competition in Nagano he was eleventh, Skupień's best result at major events.

At the Polish Championships Skupień won 22 medals in winter and seven in summer. He won the individual winter championships five times, for the first time in 1994 from the large hill Wielka Krokiew in Zakopane and last time in 2003 from the Skalite normal hill in Szczyrk . He was only able to win the summer championships in 2008 in Wisła in a team with Klemens Murańka , Marcin Bachleda and Łukasz Rutkowski for TS Wisła Zakopane .
