Fritz Meister (politician)

Fritz Meister (born December 5, 1896 in Elberfeld , † January 5, 1976 ) was a German civil servant and social democratic politician.

Until 1932, Meister was assistant to the city of Gummersbach for taxes and finances . Then he was mayor of Zahna until April 1933 . Because he was a member of the SPD, he was forcibly dismissed from this office on the basis of the law for the restoration of the civil service . Between 1935 and 1943, Meister worked as a branch manager at the Schimmelpfeng credit agency in Saarbrücken, Cologne and Bielefeld.

In May 1945 the American military government in Gummersbach appointed him mayor of the Eckenhagen community , and then in August 1945, on special instructions from the British and German authorities, he was the mayor of the Waldbröl community .

After 1945 he was a member of the district assembly and parliamentary group chairman, a member of the Provincial Council of the North Rhine Province . In addition, he was a member of the appointed Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia until 1946 in the first term of his appointment . On January 1, 1947, Fritz Meister took over the office of City Director of Herford and held it until 1961.

He was also one of the founders of the Northwest German Philharmonic in Herford; under his honorary chairmanship, the Philharmonie developed into a first-class cultural orchestra.
