The Strubtal is a western side valley of the Saalachtal, stretches from Lofer in Salzburg (626 m) to the Tyrolean Waidring (778 m) and runs between Steinplatte and Grubhörndl on the northern side and the Loferer Steinberge on the southern side. The Haselbach (Strubache, Strubbach) , which comes as Grieselbach from the Pillerseetal and the Pillersee , drains the Strubtal, flows into the Saalach as Loferbach near Lofer . An important connecting road, the Loferer Straße  (B 178) , leads from Lofer through the Strub valley. It leads over the Strub pass (677 m), a valley pass , and climbs over 100 m to Waidring, and then descends to Erpfendorf (634 m) and St. Johann in Tirol (659 m). It connects Salzburg with Tyrol .
