history

Kirchdorf had been settled since prehistoric times, but there were never permanent settlement activities. The first documentary mention as "Chirichdorf" took place in the tradition book of Kloster Tegernsee in the years 1107 / 13-1121. Kirchdorf takes its name from the church , which is one of the oldest in the district. As early as the late 2nd and early 3rd century AD, a Roman villa stood on the site of today's church .

In the 16th century, Kirchdorf developed into a mining village. A smelter , a hammer mill , a foundry and a forge were built. The Fuggers owned the ore mines at Rerobichl near Oberndorf, which mainly mined copper ore and processed it in Litzelfelden near Kirchdorf. But by the middle of the following century, mining was gradually stopped again.

During the time of the Tyrolean freedom struggle , the Kirchdorfer and their territory were sacked by General Wrede . In 1809 the church was also destroyed.

Church history

In the 8th century the first church was built on the foundations of an old villa that had been destroyed in the unrest of the Great Migration . In 1200 the foundation stone was laid for today's sacred building . It was not gothicized until 300 years later . In the 18th century the parish church got its current baroque appearance. The parish of Kirchdorf was also responsible for Reit im Winkl until 1805 , which led to a close connection between the two communities, but the connection dissolved after the establishment of its own parish.
