Mayr first started in the Ski Jumping World Cup at the Four Hills Tournament in Austria in 1993 and was able to score World Cup points straight away. In March 1993 he won the silver medal with the Austrian team at the Junior World Championships in Harrachov . In the winter of 1994/95 he took part in several World Cups and was able to place himself in the points several times. In 1995/96 he only took part in four World Cups, with a 22nd place on December 8, 1995 in Villach being his best result. After taking part in only a few competitions in the 1996/97 season, he started in the 1997/98 season consistently in the World Cup, but missed the second round in all competitions. After that, he did not compete in any jumping for almost three years. When he returned to the World Cup in January 2001, he started for the Netherlands team. Since his mother is Dutch, he was able to obtain Dutch citizenship without any problems. In February he took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships 2001 in Lahti , where he finished 47th on the large hill. In the winter of 2001/2002, he competed in several World Cups as well as in a Continental Cup and in the summer of 2002 he finally took part in all the Continental Cup summer competitions. In the winter of 2002/03 he finally switched between the Continental Cup and the World Cup, in which he only reached the second round in Willingen in 29th place. After all, he took part in the 2003 Nordic World Ski Championships in Val di Fiemme . There he took 46th place on both the large and the normal hill. After the World Cup, he ended his career.
