from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Austrian Security Academy (SIAK) is the education and research facility of the Federal Ministry of the Interior . The legal basis for the establishment of the SIAK is § 11 of the Security Police Act (SPG). This also defines the area of responsibility of the SIAK. According to the business division of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the SIAK is a department in Section I (Presidium) and has been headed by Director Norbert Leitner since 2003.

tasks

The security academy provides for the professional training of the approx. 33,000 employees of the interior department. Training is understood to mean both the basic training of police and administrative employees as well as their in-service training. The coordination and evaluation of research projects that are relevant for the interior department are also among the core tasks of the SIAK. The task of the SIAK is also international cooperation in the field of police training. The SIAK is a member of the EU agency “European Police Academy” (CEPOL) and promotes bilateral and multilateral cooperation through numerous educational activities. The central coordination office of the "Central European Police Academy" (MEPA) and the general secretariat of the "Association of European Police Colleges" (AEPC) are also located in the SIAK, so all international activities are controlled and coordinated from Vienna. Norbert Leitner has also been President of the AEPC since April 2016.

construction

As Department I / 9, the SIAK is an organizational unit of Section I (Presidium) of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and is divided into:

Police training

At the beginning of every police career, there is basic police training in one of the ten training centers of the Security Academy (BZS). It lasts 24 months and ends with a service examination and the award of the rank of inspector.

After a few years of service in a police station, there is the possibility of completing further part-time basic training (of the E2a application group or for "duty officers") for basic management. This basic training concludes with a service examination and qualifies, for example, for police management tasks in a police station.

Police officers with a high school diploma have the opportunity to apply for training as police officers. The officer training is carried out in the form of the “Police Leadership” college course in cooperation with the Wiener Neustadt University of Applied Sciences. This concludes with the academic degree “Bachelor of Arts in Police Leadership” and is the prerequisite for being appointed a police officer. Police officers manage larger agencies, such as a district police command.

Administrative service

The basic training for the employees of the “General Administrative Service” has a modular structure and is tailored to the respective job requirements (A1 / v1 - A4 / v4). Employees in employment / remuneration group A1 / v1 are in an academic career; A matriculation examination is a prerequisite for employees in employment / pay group A2 / v2.

academic career

Employees of the Federal Ministry of the Interior who have obtained a bachelor's degree or have completed a full university or technical college degree can apply for the master's degree in "Strategic Security Management". This is also offered by the Wiener Neustadt University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with the SIAK.

The FH master’s degree in "Strategic Security Management" is scientifically sound management training for top functions in the security sector. The graduates qualify for the strategic management level.
