Detective Corps
The Kriminalbeamtenkorps was a separate guard in Austria and existed until July 1, 2005. After that, it was merged with the Federal Security Guard Corps and the Federal Gendarmerie to form the Federal Police .
education
The one-year training to become a detective officer (KrB) could begin after at least 5 years of service as a (uniformed) security guard.
The training included in particular
- Criminalistics with criminal tactics , forensic technology and police service knowledge
- criminology
- State and Constitutional Law
- Criminal law as well as the sections of criminal procedural law relating to the right to intervene
- General administrative law and special administrative law , in particular police law
- Civil service law
- Applied Psychology
- Forensic medicine
After completion, the officer was assigned to a detective agency and performed duty in civilian clothes and a civilian company car, but was equipped with a service weapon and other equipment (e.g. handcuffs ).
Criminal service
The criminal investigation department was responsible for investigating criminal offenses, i.e. criminal offenses that could be roughly divided into the following groups:
- Offenses against life and limb (e.g. murder )
- Offenses against other people's assets (e.g. theft , robbery , fraud , embezzlement )
- Offenses against morality (e.g. rape )
- Counterfeit offenses (e.g. forgery of documents , counterfeiting of money )
- Drug offenses
Detective officers thus acted as executive organs in judicial prosecution , which the public prosecutor or examining magistrate could use for operational investigations.
Official title
With regard to their official titles , officers in the criminal service did not differ from security guards - contrary to an opinion that was partly also spread through TV series, there were (and are) no “ commissioners ” ( commissioner in the sense of partial official titles of the German police ) in Austria.
